Serifs or sans-serif, which one to use?
- This is a subjective decision.
- Body copy
- Body copy is the bulk of the written text on a page.
- It is the main textual content of articles and paragraphs.
- Body copy ought to be serif or sans-serif,.
- Do not use monospace, cursive, or fantasy fonts unless the situation really requires it. Those fonts tend to be more tedious to read.
- Some say that serifs make body copy more difficult to read.
- Body copy tends to be small.
- When serif characters are small, the serifs might appear muddled or unsharp.
- Serif fonts suggest more traditional, formal, or conservative information.
- Sans-serif fonts are more suggestive of modernity and speed.
- Large text, such as you may see in page headers, can use serifs more successfully because the text is large, thus minimizing the risk of unsharp appearance.
