Font Groupings
Alternate Fonts
- The success or failure of font specification is contingent on the browser's installed fonts.
- If the font you specify is not installed, the browser default will be used.
- In order to improve the chances of displaying the font desired, or a font similar to it, it is best to specify a series of alternate fonts and provide a generic font as well.
- These are called either font groups, alternate fonts, or a font-stack.
- Example:
font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
- If the first font in the group is not available, the next one will be used, and so forth.
- A generic font ought to be listed last.
